Jan 1, Edmodson's hut

Oops missed this one.

We were up early after a quiet N.Y. eve that saw us in bed by 8 PM. The day's walk took us through Big River, a steepish drop of 700 and then a steep climb of 800 m. We got an early start because it was still hot in the low areas. The high areas are good but for about 3 km either side of the river we were in 3 m high regrowth again. In this instance the path was easy to follow because so many people walk this part of the track.

Once we climbed out of the valley we were up on the Bogong High Plains. The is a large (40 km) alpine meadow above the tree line, gently undulating and it's a special place on earth.

By the time we'd walked 8 hours we'd had enough so Edmodson's Hut was our camp for the night. The is situated in a small grove of snow gums and has great shaded tent spots and a nice creek nearby. We had a great rinse in the creek.
