The ride seemed easier today so I was surprised that our average speed was pretty much the same as yesterday!
We woke at 5 AM which may sound early, but we were asleep by 7PM last night. Amazing what 6.5 hours hard riding does for your sleep. So we hit the road at 7:30, while the winds were calm. Except that mostly there was zero shoulder the morning's ride was pleasant enough. We ate a lunch of crackers, cheese, tomato and tuna.
The afternoon was meant to be broken by a nice break at Bullablling (66km), but when we got there we found it closed. When we started riding again I had a fair bit of pain in my left achillies and noticed that my right side was getting sore too! This of course is very bad news. It means that my original left side injury was caused by repetitive strain and not a freak injury as I had hoped.
The plan at the moment is to hole up in Coolgardie, resting, icing etc until it is recovered.
Needless to say, this is somewhat depressing. We have started considering our options if this recovery is a long process. We may set some kind of record for the slowest cycle crossing of Australia!
