We were promised a spectacular day by our Milepost book and we were not disappointed. The road out of Palmer takes you through gentle terrain at first then starts winding through steep passes with roaring rivers and a huge glacier until you finally come to a high plateau about 1000m high. Then just when you think the excitement for the day is over and you are coming down off the east side of the plateau, suddenly out of the haze 16,237 ft Mt. Sanford materializes (above). Stupefaction guaranteed!
