YADOSS!
If you've ever watched footage of driving through Alaska then todays scenery is probably what you've seen. Another huge range of mountains shepherded us from Tok to Fairbanks.
The road was pretty good most of the way, not many frost affected sections at all. The speed limit was to my liking too. In fact it has been 55 mph or 90 kph since we hit Yukon, an ideal speed for towing as long as the road is not bumpy. Saves fuel. Some places we've been paying up to $1.80 / l so saving fuel is good.
Once we got to Fairbanks, we got an RV site then headed of to LARS (Large Animal Research Station) at the U of A to get a look at muskox and caribou calves and fawns. Well, talk about cute as a bugs ear!!! Just as we arrived a female muskox and her calf ran by. Picture a cow with dread-locks and a ball of fluff running. I managed only to capture their bums in the photo above! Pity, but once they got past it was too late. The caribou were shedding their winter hair and looked a bit scruffy. The bucks were just starting their antlers, had been growing them for two weeks and they were nearly complete. An amazing amount of bone to grow in such a short period of time.
The kid giving the tour was quite informative, a student from the university.
