June 4 2008 Tok

It was a long day for us. We left Haines Junction about 7:30 and got to Tok (pronounced Toke) about 2:30. Gracie our Garmin navigator sent us about 1 km up the wrong track to find the camp site we had chosen but since her directions got more and more ridiculous we chose to ignore her and found it ourselves.

I've decided to coin a new acronym, YADOSS, which will save me a lot of typing in this blog. It stands for Yet Another Day Of Stunning Scenery. It seems that I will be using it a lot. Fortunately for the English language it will probably not become a new word, because most people aren't driving the Alaska highway!

For most of the day we had a huge range of snow covered peaks to the south of us, large beautiful lakes and later when we crossed the border we were traversing ancient tree covered sand dunes. So although it was a long day it was interesting.

The road was a bit up and down today. Some long really good stretches and then some rough sections and a lot of construction. Sadly the road improved a great deal once we were in the USA. Hmmmmph!
