May 19 Santiago de Compostela!

The end! For most walkers anyway. Some will walk on to Finisterre (end
of earth) and we will go back to France and start again at St. Jean
Pied de Port, so that we can walk back to our starting point at Leon.
We had a calm foggy morning clearing to a nice sunny day for our walk
into Santiago. The cathedral at Santiago is truly amazing both in size
and the amount of ornate stone carving. We only saw the outside so far
but may get a look inside tonight. We arrived at about 11:30 AM having
got an early 6:30 start, so we were able to join a relatively short
line to get our Compostela, a completion certificate. We walked 327 km
to get ours but you only need to do the last 100 km to get it. They
owe us 2.27 more of them by my reckoning. Once we got that out of the
way, for a celebration we found a local eatery that did paella, a
baked rice dish. Lee and I got a sea food and a vegetable one and
shared. It was very good, especially the sea food one.
Maybe a look at the cathedral under lights tonight and a 6:45 train
across Spain tomorrow.
