Today we had a very nice farm lands and bush walk in bright sunshine,
with the sky criss-crossed with jet streams. The track was mostly non
bitumen so that was good but it was very rocky in places so that was
bad! A highlight was a dairy farm with lots of Holstein calves at the
fence waiting for pets. Well, maybe they were actually waiting for
food, but they got pets. Later we saw two green lizards, and sat and
had our morning snack beside a nice grassy stream.
Astorga was a Roman garrison town, so it's surrounded by 10m high
stone walls. Several places in the town were fenced off for
archeological digs, now finished but left open for people to see. We
are sitting at the edge of the wall having sticky buns and tea for
supper and enjoying a magnificent view across the plains to the hills
we walked today.
