Another stunning Pyrenees walk through farms surrounded by tree
covered mountains. Soon after leaving Zubiri we went through a big
magnesite mine but could not see much. For quite a while we followed
a lively mountain stream on tree lined trails. We saw lots more of the
strong looking horses today, often with foals. These horses look just
like the drawings of war horses in books, not as big as draught horses
but very sturdily built.
Pamplona is a small city and we walked for kilometres to get to the
ancient core all these towns have. Here you find the old buildings,
narrow streets and huge cathedrals.
Tonight we are staying in the Jesus y Maria Albergue which has 114
beds. It's in an old building but the interior has been renovated and
is very nice and relatively private for a dorm. It cost us 5 Euros
each. There is a free laundry so we washed all our dirty clothes.
We had a rest day planned for here so we've taken it. We moved to a
nice comfy double room with bath at the YMCA for 51 Euros, nice
because we could move in right away so we got maximum value for our
money and got to have a snooze. Amazingly no less than three people
stopped us on the way and tried to redirect us to the Camino! In
Australia they would have been sniggering behind their hands about
dumb wog foreigners!
