We had kind of a rest day today, only walking about 12 km. We
originally had planned on stopping at Molinaseca, a pretty little
village on a river, but the refugios weren't open when we passed
through. Meryl has had a cold for a few days now and it's turned
nasty, possibly bronchitis, so she's quite sick. By pushing on to
Ponferrada we were able to get her in a bed sooner, and plan to spend
an extra day here to let her rest.
The walk down from Rabanal was very pretty. There's lots of flowers
out at the moment. Some stunning camellias, wild roses, wild lavender,
lots of white and yellow shrubs I have no name for and my favorite,
stunning red poppies. Once we got to Molinaseca, we were on roads, as
that was the quickest route to the only refugio in Ponferrada. It was
open when we arrived and so joined the queue and thankfully got a four
bed room.
